The treatment of reinforced concrete using electro-chemical techniques to assist in the control in corrosion of steel is widely accepted throughout the Structural Refurbishment industry.
The use of Electro-chemical processes usually contain both structural remediation as well as the chosen technology. In order to achieve the correct design parameters, levels of corrosion need to be understood, Makers advocate that full diagnosis testing takes place prior to any electro-chemical design or application.
Makers have been strong advocates of their usage, specifically in multi-storey car parks, but equally in the control of deep seated carbonation as related to other insitu and precast reinforced concrete structures and for structures where chloride based accelerators were used in construction.
Many of the structures treated by us, have ongoing monitoring, this is in form of embedded corrosion rate and ½ cell probes, in order to understand fully the degree of control exerted by the various processes on the reinforcement corrosion.
Controls can comprise of either, manually obtained data, data from loggers installed on site, or data transmitted from the installation over the internet, on a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Makers have good examples of both situations.
Makers work in conjunction with Corrosion design experts in order to produce systems that cater for the structural issues and allow best value engineering. Each design process must be looked at an individual basis to produce effective solutions.
