NFRC Midlands Golf Day
The NFRC had their annual Midlands Golf Day at the Forest of Arden Hotel and Country Club located 7 miles from the NEC near Meridan.
18 teams of 4 competed on the 18 hole championship Arden course home of the Senior British Masters and English Open.
A Stableford scoring system of 2 scores to count from 4 players provided for a relaxed afternoon with a shotgun start at 12:00 noon, concluding with dinner and prize giving. Attendees were from across the Midlands covering all disciplines and an opportunity to catch up with old friends.
Paul Harper of the National Federation of Roofing Contractors was on hand to co-ordinate the day and together with fellow NFRC members provided live hole by hole scoring adding a new diversion to proceedings. Despite previous months of heavy rainfall the course was surprisingly dry with good quality greens and fairways so early in the season. A gusting wind reaching speeds of 40mph added a further layer of difficulty to what is already a renown challenging course adding what seemed another 1000 yards to the 6500-yard course.

The Arden is famous for its roaming deer enclosed bluebell woods and freelined narrow fairways not to mention the strategically placed water particularly on the 18th. Although played on a bright sunny day the stiff breeze provided a significant chill factor so luckily the Makers Team were donned in their new golf shirts and hoodie tops, sporting our new 50th anniversary logo.
The team consisting of Sean, Joe, Luke & Simon battled on through tough conditions carding a respectable 76 points but were in no fear of challenging the winners who amassed 86 points winning by a single point.
“It was great to get out with the guys this was our first outing this year and some of us haven’t played for a while. Anyone watching would definitely describe us as rusty, but we have another couple of opportunities during the year to improve!”
Simon Lamb, MD
