Makers First Female Site Manager
In an environment dominated by male counterparts it’s unusual to see young females and women working at the construction coalface. It’s not so uncommon to see women working in the professional roles, architects, surveyors and engineers but as site managers that takes a special kind of person.
We are delighted to welcome our very first female site manager Gemma Kingham.
When Gemma first approached us, we were slightly taken aback as Gemma was already running her own business; Proseal Essex Limited, who had provided services to Makers over a number of years.
“I wasn’t sure how the guys would react, but Simon and Willy have been amazing, it’s been interesting to watch how they work from outside the organisation, and in truth I really like what they are about”
Gemma Kingham.
“When Gemma first approached us, I was initially unsure, intrigued but having sat down with her for a number of hours and understood the same struggles we ourselves have faced, I instantly knew she would be a great asset to Makers.”
Simon Lamb, MD
Gemma’s introduction into construction was through her father, Paul Loveday who initially ran Proseal, having supported him in the administration role and then supervising and managing the company, Gemma has become very familiar with the workings on site and in particular the male psyche.
“I don’t feel daunted, I’m really excited, I am a mum of 3 and peacemaker for the last 23 years and those skills will no doubt come in really handy. The Makers boys have been brilliant even when we have been delivering projects for them, there has never been an issue, even the girls in the office have always been helpful.”
Gemma is married to Grant who also works in construction and is a fully qualified carpenter and joiner. Grant will now take over the running of Proseal alongside his other company. Mother of 3 her passions have been horse riding and skiing in les Alps Deuz, but being fully immersed in Proseal has meant these pass times have taken a back seat.
In terms of the challenge and change in direction Gemma is excited for the future.
“I’ve always been comfortable in the construction environment, going on sites with my Dad provided me with those life lessons and I really enjoyed what I was doing but the constant pressure and working in isolation can be a grind, but working with Makers is a total contrast. The team have been amazing and I’m sure I will get all the support I need. There are now things to learn but it’s such a fresh start I can’t wait to get stuck in.
Gemma joins our southern team and will be the pioneering light for other women who believe they have what it takes to run and manage Makers contracts.
“I have met some incredible women that have worked in our industry, I have total faith in Gemma, she has a way of putting people at ease and bringing them along and her knowledge goes way beyond site management with the demands placed upon her running her own company will be invaluable. If I had any reservations about Gemma, it would be her football team Tottenham, but you can’t have it all !!
Welcome Gemma on behalf of everyone at Makers you will be a total success!
