Dicko Of The Yard
After his recent celebrity appearance at Branston Golf and Country Club “Dicko of the Yard” arrives to carry out his duties and the newly acquired logistic facility in Staffordshire.
4 months in the making Dicko a CE 11M Ausa forklift was created out of a donor vehicle that only had a few remaining parts having sacrificed them to keep the rest of the Makers fleet running.
“Ausa parts are notoriously slow arriving from Spain and with only one importer tough decisions are required to keep the fleet moving, no disrespect to the Spanish but it does appear that a mañana approach occurs….
…we had no option than to cannibalise one forklift until substitute parts arrive from Spain and then are utilised in the workshop. It was when I saw what was left of a truck called Mainline I decided to create Dicko of the Yard to coincide with our move from the Chicken Shed into the new premises.”

Completely rebuilt from scratch this chassis up restoration has been finished in the 1954 Chesterfield Town football kit colours, the club famous for providing the first professional football terms for Gordon Banks, England’s most renowned Goal keeper. The Forklift depicts the nickname of the team “The Spirerites” after the famous leaning spire in the town, together with the clubs emblems.
Chesterfield was where Ian was born and who he supported as a boy, before he moved to join the Derbyshire Police, as well as the Club colours and emblems the truck also carries the Cancer ribbon depicting the illness Ian suffered from, plus his nickname that lends itself to the truck.
Dicko also had a saying “ one for the frog’ which when translated, frog and toad, road, and was a familiar cry just before his departure from any drinking hostilery, which he became renown for and is used as toasting celebration following his ill health which is also depicted on the truck.
As an ex policemen Dicko of the Yard, continues his policing duties and we all feel more secure knowing our friend is on duty with us. We are delighted with the result the guys at Davisons have achieved and Dicko will be pride of place in Makers new facility.
Makers has the famous “Pink Ladies” also within the fleet dedicated to the Mums staff have lost to cancer within the company and Dicko is now the 6th. Each forklift is individual carrying the dedication name and appropriate cancer ribbon.
“Dicko” is a wonderful addition to our fleet and will remain on duty at The Yard, we hope that our small gesture to a fantastic guy goes a little way to easing the pain Helen and her family have suffered and that ‘Dicko’s personality shines through and will always be around to remind us of what we miss. On behalf of Makers we extend our love and best wishes to Helen and family”
