Times Square Shopping Centre is a retail and co-working hub located on the High Street in Sutton, Greater London. It features major brands and flexible workspace operations on its upper. The Car Park is predominantly used by customer of the Pure Gym and is open 24 hours 7 days a week.
The car park is a roof top car park which is over Pure Gym. Several products had been used previously on the car park that had failed and as a result the gym was suffering from water ingress from leaks that were penetrating through the worn system into the gym below. The car park was also at capacity each day due to only having 47 spaces and it was requested that the new layout to increase the number of spaces available on the Car Park.
Some of the issued that needed to be addressed were concrete blocks that were used as area dividers had to be removed and reinstated and there were redundant barrier systems to be removed.
Following a competitive tendering process, Makers Construction was awarded the contract to deliver a comprehensive refurbishment and waterproofing package of the Rooftop Car Park.
To ensure long-term performance, detailed surface preparation was undertaken, including: Mechanical planning of the existing asphalt, captive blasting to achieve an optimal bonding profile, edge preparation across deck and ramp.
In order to protect the structure from water ingress all the asphalt day joints were treated and reinforced using Triflex Fleece technology and splits were repaired and filled with a semi-flexible material to allow the asphalt to move through its heating and cooling cycles and again Triflexs’ fleecing technology applied to these areas. Once all the splits and crack and surface imperfections had been attended to the application of the Triflex ProPark Fully Fleeced System was applied to the car park and two plant rooms.
The project was delivered over an eleven-week programme and was completed on time. The new waterproofing system provided the client with a 10-year warranty. The redesigned layout resulted in an additional thirteen parking spaces being generated.
