NFRC Midland Golf Day turns up the heat!

Makers Golf Team NFRC Golf Day 2025In what was the hottest day of the year with temperatures rising over 24 degrees Celsius, the Makers golf team consisting of Sean Allsop, Joe Marler, Simon Hollier and Simon Lamb taking part in the NFRC Midlands Golf Day, once again held at Nottinghamshire Golf Club.

In total contrast to last year where fairways were waterlogged and greens fairly receptive and slow this year’s conditions were in stark contrast due to the relatively dry weather over the past few weeks.

The event arranged by Paul Harper of the NFRC saw 21 teams compete following a shot gun start with teams consisting of 4 players vying for a share of the prizes with 2 scores from 4 to count over the 18-hole course off what can only be described as derisory handicaps!

Along with the usual team prizes generously provided by the competition sponsors, individual prizes for longest drive and nearest the pin were heavily contested throughout the day. It was what can only be described as testing conditions saw very firm fairways providing addition welcome assistance counter balanced by rather tough greens that continued to baffle the most competent of players throughout the day.

There was a slight improvement in the Makers team performance over last year and was certainly a game of 2 halves scoring 49 points on the front 9 and only 29 points on the back 9, although due to the shotgun start starting on the back 9. Sighting the drinks cart the introduction and application of cans of Moretti beer had an instant effect resulting in what was considered a reasonable score of 78 points only to be thwarted by a team from Moulton Roofing who achieved an incredulous 93 from only a team of 3!. Luckily, they couldn’t stay for the meal or prize giving as a number of cat calls from the gathered contingent provided a cry of outcry to which the organisers announced that all 3 players had a worldy!

Makers would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those involved in organising the day, it was great to see so many familiar faces, some even slightly sunburnt, especially Paul Harper who never plays but seems to derive some demonic pleasure in watching us all suffer! Here’s to next year!
