Claire Runs for Birmingham Children’s Hospital

Claire with her 10K medal on the podiumAs many amateur runners are just recovering from the London Marathon our very own Claire Rutherford-Smith has completed her very first running challenge; the Drayton Manor 10K, running off all those easter eggs.

Claire has only recently taken up running and has joined a local running club based at Wyndley Leisure Centre near Sutton Coldfield.

The Sue Ellis Running Club is based there and has many running classes operating most days. Claire has been regularly putting in the hours on a Monday and Wednesday evening and then following it up with a Saturday morning run!

Claire has clocked up over 300 miles in training for her 10K and has her sights firmly set on a marathon.
On the day of the run the weather was awful with strong winds and persistent rain but this did not prevent Claire reaching her goal beating her target time of 1 hour 15 minutes by 3 minutes.

Claire completing her 10K run to the finish lineAs well as competing Claire is also raising money for the charity the Birmingham Children’s Hospital which I know very well having been a long term patient in my informative years. Everything is gratefully received and any small amount helps. Claire’s giving page is https://www.justgiving.com/page/claire-rutherford-smith-1775746068710?utm_medium=FA&utm_source=EM

Claires initial target was £200 but has smashed through the £700 barrier, it would be great to get Claire and the Birmingham Children’s Hospital through the £800 barrier.

Congratulations and well-done Claire, now go soak those feet!
