Return to Wentworth for the BMW PGA

Simon Lamb at WentworthIt’s been 15 years since my last visit to Wentworth where I was fortunate to play in a Pro AM for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, presented by Speedy with happy memories of being part of a winning team.

11 years on and my golf game isn’t what it was with the toll of age and a couple of knee surgeries, but I was delighted to be able to accept an invitation to the opening day of the BMW PGA Championship at the Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey.

Wentworth has been the home of the BMW PGA event since 2005, prior it was the Volvo PGA through that time the course has gone through a number of changes, but many designed by Open Golf Champion Ernie Els.

My recollection of the course had faded over time but following some of the early players it soon came flooding back. Whilst Rory McIlroy had started on the back 9 first it provided a good opportunity to grab a quick breakfast in The Ballroom before watching the Glam Slam Champion tee off.

BMW PGAThe tournament running through to Sunday attracts over 120,000 spectators to the European tours’ flagship event and with competition from around the world, the winning golfer pocketing a princely £1.1 Million out of the total prize fund of £7.0 Million.

I would like to extend my thanks to Corinthian for co-ordinating the day and access to some of the more restricted areas, it was very much appreciated particularly driving through the course during play!

Simon at WentworthTo all my friends at Wentworth thank you for the return visit after so many years it was an excellent day and brought back fond memories.

Simon Lamb, MD
