Makers – King’s of the Castle
Following on from the successful strengthening contract at Castlegate car park, Makers have just completed phase 1 of a £1m plus refurbishment of the 8 storey car park.
The Castlegate Shopping Centre covers a 6.5 acre site and receives over 12 million visitors per year.
Purpose built in 1972 the shopping centre also houses the historic indoor markets and is the natural hub of Stockton.
“this is a massive investment in Castlegate which clearly demonstrates commitment both to the Centre and Stockton team centre itself”
Recieving over 3/4 million vehicle visits per year the car park was suffering badly from ongoing corrosion and spalling concrete. The original 1972 structure had been under significant strain to cope with modern day use and Makers were chosen to design and install a CP system (Cathodic Protection) to arrest the corrosion and provide ongoing protection.
“the volume of repair has been incredible given the scale of the structure”
Matthew Hewetson – Quantity Surveyor
Makers completed phase 1 of the 40 week programme and have now transformed Castlegate in to a vibrant parking facility.
“Castlegate is great example of what can be achieved with good design, good consultants and the correct approach.”
